St Thomas More RC Primary School is a Voluntary Aided school in the Diocese of Middlesbrough and is maintained by Kingston upon Hull Local Authority.
The school provides a Catholic education for children from a large area in the west of the city, with priority being given to baptised Roman Catholic children living in the West Hull parishes of St Joseph’s, St Wilfrid’s and Corpus Christi, as well as Our Lady of Lourdes in Hessle.
As a Voluntary Aided School the Governing Body is responsible for admissions. It is guided in that responsibility by the requirements of the law, by advice from the Diocesan Trustees and its duty to the Catholic community and the Common Good.
The school is of average size, with 165 pupils currently on roll. The children are between the ages of 3 and 11 years old and are taught in single class year groups from Nursery to Year 6. The admission number Foundation Stage to Year 6 is 30. The school also has a 26 place nursery provision. This means that we will be able to provide 15 hours a week of free childcare to children from the term after their 3rd birthday.
Admission to St Thomas More guarantees admission to St Mary’s College, the local Catholic High School, for children who have attended St Thomas More for at least 12 months prior to the time of application to St Mary's College.
Although the law does not require children to be admitted to school until the beginning of the term following their fifth birthday, the Governing Body being the admissions authority for this school, will admit children into Foundation Stage 2 at the beginning of the Autumn Term following their fourth birthday if it is before 31st August. All admissions will be according to the criteria detailed in the full Admissions Policy which can be obtained from School.
In accordance with the Education Act 2005, children with any form of disability will have equal opportunity for admission to our school.
